OUR TAKE
An alternative with self-hosted and managed stages
Photon can be shortlisted for a migration that changes the balance between development control and managed operations. Pick one intended production model before evaluating the move.
Decide who will operate the sender
Self-hosting on a Mac uses the operator’s iCloud account, while the managed shared and dedicated offerings change number allocation and infrastructure ownership. Moving between those models changes more than an API address.
Write down the intended identity for customers and the person responsible when the sender is unavailable. A successful local experiment cannot settle the hosted production requirement.
Preserve the features that motivated the change
Photon documents direct messaging and broader channel capabilities across its plans. Group access and dedicated identities can affect which tier is relevant. Match the desired capability to the actual selected account.
Retain your application’s records of conversation ownership and pending actions even if the delivery layer changes. A platform move should not make previously completed tasks run again.
Accept one production-shaped conversation
Use the chosen number and hosting model for the rehearsal. Test a teammate handling the reply and an attachment moving through the actual application.
Photon’s breadth is most useful when the migration requirements identify which of its paths to take.
The decision in one sentence
Choose the hosting and identity model before choosing the migration route.
